Cumann na mBunscol Uladh hurling tournament

17th Jun 2025
Owenbeg stadium, home of Derry GAA, was the venue for the inaugural Cumann na mBunscol Uladh hurling tournament. Although there have been indoor hurling competitions at Ulster level for some time, this was the first time an Ulster outdoor hurling tournament was held, with county champions from Donegal, Derry, Tyrone and Antrim playing a round robin go-games format. Unfortunately other counties were unable to attend due to prior commitments

The standard of hurling was excellent in all games played between Scoil Naomh Mura, Tooban, County Donegal, Saint Columba's Primary School, Kilrea County Derry,  Saint Colmcille's Primary School, Carrickmore, County Tyrone and St Anne's, Corkey, Co Antrim.

Indeed, the top teams were beating each other, with little between them, so the decision was made to share the championship honours between the 3 schools with 2 wins each from Carrickmore, Kilrea and Corkey.

Really well done to our boys and girls today, they represented themselves, their families and our school with distinction. What a super way to finish the last Tuesday in P7- Ulster Champions!

Thank you to Kevin Hinphey from Derry for facilitating the event in Owenbeg, to Manus O'Donnell, Secretary of Cumann na mBunscol Uladh for organising and to all the schools for the hard but sporting manner in which the games were played.
