STEM lesson P5/6

20th Nov 2025

Thank you to Miss Alexander who delivered a wonderful STEM lesson to P5/6 recently. We are learning all about our teeth in WAU and Miss Alexander got us to carry out an experiment to see if liquids including sugary drinks (acid) cause damage to teeth.

We used eggs and different liquids to see which liquids would damage or weaken the shell.
We learned that ‘fluoride’ in toothpaste helps to protects our teeth against acid. Acid is found in sugary drinks! We used eggshells because they are made of calcium compounds and can be weakened by acid- just like the enamel on our teeth.

Our verdict- don’t drink fizzy drinks and brush your teeth twice a day!!!
